Create shortcuts without the default prefix Shortcut TO

We have just received a mail from one of the readers regarding a tweak which a user want to implement.

Vikram says: "I want to create shortcuts on my desktop without the default text Shortcut to"

This happens when a user selects a file or program right click on it and select create desktop shortcut. ( a shortcut is created on the desktop with a default syntax shortcut to <program or file folder name> ).

There can be two ways through which we can implement this tweak to solve this problem.

It is due to the windows registry which always add the text Shortcut to with each and every shortcut we create on the desktop.

To stop windows from adding the ‘Shortcut To‘ text to newly created shortcuts on the Desktop, follow these steps:

Method 1:
1. Open Start and select Run or type Window + Key.
2. Type in ‘regedit’ and click OK
3. Navigate to this key:
HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
4. Right-click in the right pane and select ‘New->Binary Value’ now enter ‘00,00,00,00’ and Click Ok
5. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Method 2:

Second method is quite simple with which if you don’t want Shortcut to text you need to right click your mouse and select new >> shortcut.

Click on browse to locate the file or program for which you want to create a shortcut.

Tip: Disable Auto Play: To disable AutoPlay for a while , Hold down the Shift key for a few seconds after inserting a CD into the CD-Rom drive or pen drive in your USB ports.
